Week 7 - Module 1 Preparation and Execution
Date: 22 April 2021
Day: Thursday
We were having a brief meeting on that morning and it was held in Google Meet instead of Microsoft Teams just like usual. It is because we faced the problems where most of the mentees could not access the Teams channel due to some unknowing consequences in the previous meeting. Therefore, we were trying to use Google Meet to familiarise with all the functionalities of Google Meet. We hope that the participants will not face any obstacles using this new platform. First, the Module 1 Development Team was presenting the materials that have been created by them. In short, they had prepared a presentation slide for Module 1: Embedding the Flow, pre-test questions, post-test questions, quiz questions as well as the feedback form. They even provided additional information on that topic and stored them into a "library". In the library, there are practice questions for the mentor-mentee session which are divided into 3 parts in which Part A includes 14 daily lives basic cases, Part B consists of 15 IT (Information Technology) or programming related basic cases, and Part C comprises 4 programming exercises. Moreover, the answers for each questions were also provided as well. However, the mentees can also try out these questions by themselves as templates for each of the questions were too provided. Overall, Dr. Azah praised them for their efforts in doing a great job. According to Dr. Azah, members from Module 1 Development Team should explain the contents of the module before the event starts on this Saturday (24 April 2021). Furthermore, for the sake of this program, a "Bits With Teens" website had been created through Google Sites and all the information regarding our event could be accessed there! The link of the page is shown below:

Besides, the module developer team has also implemented a software known as draw.io and it provides a useful platform for us to make various kind of diagrams and charts conveniently. They also created a short demonstration video on how to use the platform for drawing the flowchart and the responsibilities of mentors are to share this practical skill with their mentees. Furthermore, they also came out with 3 YouTube videos related to pseudocode and flowchart to further enhance the mentees' understandings on the topic.
The links of those videos are listed below:
1. Title : Flowcharts

2. Title : Algorithm using pseudocode and flowchart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TSOy_-8h3k
3. Title : What's an algorithm? - David J. Malan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hfOvs8pY1k
Last but not least, they had prepared additional teaching materials on Miro as well and several documents related to our topic which are "What is Algorithm and Pseudocode", "Advantages and Disadvantages of Flowchart and Pseudocode" and "Conversion from Pseudocode to Actual Programming Language Examples". For easy accessing, QR codes were created for pre-test, post-test, quiz and feedback form. Moreover, Dr. Azah requested us to uniform our backgrounds in Google Meet to easily differentiate between the mentors and mentees. In brief, the flow of the program is pre-test questions being answered by the mentees one night before the session, post-test questions done simultaneously under the guidance of mentors during the mentoring slot and the final quiz being held in the General Room through Google Forms with the time allocation of 7 minutes. After the event, the mentors need to make sure that all the mentees fill in the feedback form because it will be counted as their attendances for certificate generation! Finally, the meeting ended 1 hour earlier for the preparation and discussion among the mentor teams. Dr. Azah instructed the mentors to read through all the materials given including the questions and answers as well before the mentoring session. In addition, a meeting was held by our dedicated executive members one day before the event (Friday) to review the flow of program and all the members can watch the meeting's recording and jot down the minutes!
Day: Saturday
Time: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.

However, one of our mentees who is Nur Aisyah Binti Asrullizam could not attend our event on Saturday as she was having a program in her secondary school MRSM Sultan Azlan Shah. She said that she will be joining our next module which is Module 2: The Code-Breaker.
The event started with Chai Nam Chi as the representative of Module 1 Development Team to clarify the contents of the module that day followed by the mentees being separated into their respective groups during breakout session. The first lesson was about pseudocode and flowchart and the mentees were required to prepare A4 papers and their own drawing tools to try out the questions during mentoring session. They were also required to open up their webcams and microphone as well for easy communication! They could also ask any questions or challenges they faced during the session and we as the mentors were always willing to lend them a hand. Throughout the session, we were able to show them the correct ways to create pseudocode and design flowcharts. We even showed them some of the example cases where pseudocode and flowcharts are useful to solve the required problems. After the sharing session, we guided the mentees to answer the post-test questions in Google Forms so that they managed to master this particular topic as the fundamental of programming. Concretely, the time allocated for us to share our knowledge with them was very limited and we sincerely hope that we could have more time to spend with the kids. Before we ended the mentor-mentee slot, we took a group photo together. Then, they returned to the main hall to be ready for the final quiz! It was an exciting moment as they answered the questions attentively in order to pass with flying colours.

Before formally ending the first module, all of us took a group photo in the General Meeting Room and the details of next module which include the date, time and venue were announced for the mentees' information. Lastly, all the mentees were reminded to fill in the feedback form to improve our program in the future!
