Week 8 - Module 2 Execution
Day: Saturday
Time: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.

On that Thursday (29 April 2021), we did not have tutorial session as it was a public holiday (Nurul Al-Quran). However, we were having a dry run on the next day (Friday) to discuss the flow of Module 2 program. It was compulsory for all the group leaders and the other mentors were also encouraged to join. The test run was conducted by Mohamad Nizar Mustaqeem Bin Mazlan (Leader) and Wan Suraya Binti Wan Mohd Lofti (Deputy). Both of them were very committed and the dry run was indeed a success.
On Saturday, it was a special day as it fell on Labour Day! Module 2: The Code-Breaker, which was about the art of cryptography, was carried out via Google Meet. The event started with recitation of "Doa" by Wan Muhammad Azib Bin Wan Abdul Rahim. Then, a brief introduction of Module 2 was done by one of the members of Module 2 Developer Team. All the materials prepared by them were also explained in the briefing session. In addition, they have prepared a teaching video on how to convert between ASCII decimal and hexadecimal using ASCII table and all the mentees can refer to that video for better understanding on the topic! After that, the mentees were required to fill in the pre-test form before entering the breakout room. Again, it was happy to announce that we have another new member joining us who was Muhammad Faris Au-Farraq. We were glad to welcome him to our group - Group 10: WiFi.
Then, we waited for a while before all the mentees entered our small meeting room. The studying materials provided for this week included pre-test questions, post-test questions, a presentation slide on our main module (The Code-Breaker), 2 videos introducing the concepts of ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) and Unicode on YouTube, 2 videos prepared by our module developers on current topic as well as the conversion between hexadecimal and decimal to 128 ASCII characters, extra materials comprise Concept Question Bank, ASCII Decimal Question Bank, ASCII Hexadecimal Question Bank, Created Emoji Encoded Table Conversion Question Bank, and all the answers for the questions. Our course mainly focussed on ASCII instead of Unicode and ASCII table was also provided to all the mentees as the guidelines to answer post-test questions and to solve quiz problems! There was one more interesting thing this week which was on Quiz questions as it was about a storyline of Naruto, Japanese manga series, entitled "The Flower's Last Petal". The format of the quiz was a story plot where respondents were required to help Naruto and his crew to fight against the evil according to clues found by encoding and decoding. It was indeed a fun part and the mentees needed to be very patient when answering as it might take some time to complete the tasks.

Throughout the session, we as the mentors also guided the mentees and taught them the fastest way to encode and decode by referring to ASCII table. We also made sure that they understood what we have shared with them before answering the post-test questions! Moreover, we also explained the importance and benefits of using encryption and decryption in real life scenarios such as to solve security issues, to remove redundancies of data as well as the transformation and transferring of data in waveform via computer system. Furthermore, we also showed them some of the videos on YouTube regarding this topic to enhance their understandings in this field. Most importantly, we also encouraged the mentees to take part in TikTok Challenge in order to win awesome prizes. In Module 2, we even implemented a new style of teaching which involved all the mentors. In short, the mentors for each group were divided into 2 categories with specific roles respectively. The first group was in charge of the mentoring session while the other group was responsible for checking newly updated announcement on the WhatsApp group, Telegram as well as Instagram from time to time. This alternative aimed to ensure the smoothness of the program. Last but not least, we guided the mentees and showed them the steps to solve post-test questions part by part patiently. Before leaving the breakout group, all of us took a photo and the mentees returned to the main hall for Quiz session.

All the mentees were given 20 minutes to answer the quiz and they were encouraged to submit the answers even though they did not manage to finish it. The countdown of timer was also shown on the screen and the atmosphere was really intense. The quiz session has finally ended and the winners for each module will be announced during the closing ceremony. Lastly, the event was concluded and the participants were briefed through the date and time of next module which is Module 3: Dig-It. It is about Number System and the participants will get to know which number base is used in this world and other intriguing problems as well! Then, everyone turned on their webcams and took a group photo to wrap up the session. After that, the program organisers were having a short meeting to talk about problems they faced during the event and to make a closure of today's event! Feedback Form was sent to each group for the mentees to fill out after the program. Each mentors should also come out with a mentee evaluation form for this module. Besides, the initial planning that mentee evaluation form should be uploaded in a mentor section on BWT (Bits With Teens) official website was abolished because according to Dr. Azah, those confidential files should not be made visible to the public. Instead, another Google Drive will be opened soon and all mentors are required to submit the forms there to be examined by Dr. Azah.
