Week 9 - Module 3 Execution
Day: Saturday
Time: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.

On 6 May 2021 (Thursday) during tutorial session, we were having a dry run session where we discussed the flow of program that will be carried out on Saturday. To highlight, one of the members of Module 3 Developer Team, Tiew Ker Xin, explained to us the teaching materials she and her team have prepared beforehand. In short, her team has prepared a lecture presentation slide on the required topic (Numeral System), a lecture video describing Number System, tutorial slides on some Questions and Solutions, an Extra Questions List, Sample Answers for Extra Exercises, pre-test questions, post-test questions, feedback form, Quiz 1 as well as Quiz 2, and all the QR codes for important links. For this week module, there were 2 types of Quiz questions with different level of difficulty. For Quiz 1, all the mentees are required to answer in a specific allocation of time while for Quiz 2, we will select the 10 top scorers in Quiz 1 to participate and to compete for the first place! At that time, 10 of the winners are required to open their webcams while answering final quiz questions and the other participants should keep silence and observe the involved contestants attentively.
Besides, Module 3 Team has also implemented the pre-test and post-test questions on Quizlet, which is an online learning tool specifically designed for answering quizzes in the form of flashcards. Hence, the mentors will have a wider option on how to conduct mentoring session as a more compelling platform has been provided despite only using Google Forms which the mentees might get bored. Furthermore, there were also 2 collection of videos introducing methods of converting between the number bases as well as way of using built-in calculator software on Windows or using online programming calculator to help them in solving various conversion problems. In fact, there are altogether 5 types of basic conversion problems in Number System which are between Base 2 and Base 10, Base 8 and Base 10, Base 16 and Base 10, Base 2 and Base 8, as well as Base 2 and Base 16. For conversion involving Base 2 and Base 8 as well as Base 2 and Base 16, there is another faster and easier alternative to do the job by using 3 or 4 radix point methods. All these contents will be further discussed in the mentor-mentee slot. The mentors can also show the videos prepared to the mentees to strengthen their mastery on this topic.
Moreover, step-by-step guiding videos on each type of conversion problems were also provided and the mentees will get to understand and apply those skills in their daily lives. In addition, through this module, the mentees will know the importance of Number System in this world such as the representation of colours, images and videos on RGB (Red, Green, Blue) Colour Model basis, representation of file permissions on UNIX Operating System, UTF-8 and UTF-16. Last but not least, a game link on Number System was also provided where the mentees can train themselves on Number Base 2 which is widely used in most of the computer operating systems as computers can only understand '0' and '1'. The link of the website is shown below:

Unfortunately, Tiow Kit Keong and I as mentors were unable to attend the meeting on Saturday morning because another event which was Programming League Preliminary Round 2021 has clashed with this event! However, we have informed the executive members as well as all the members in Group 10: Wifi regarding our absences. We sincerely hoped that the mentees will enjoy themselves on that day. Muhammad Asyraf Bin Mustaffa and Lubna Binti Ahmad Nizam as the other mentors in our group took up the responsibilities to handle the mentoring session. For the mentees, only 2 mentees presented on that day who are Noor Muhammad Thaqiff Bin Noor Ariff and Nur Aisyah Binti Asrullizam. Both of them really supported our event and we also wished that they can take part in TikTok Challenge as well. Before ending mentoring session, a group photo was taken and the mentees returned to the main room to prepare themselves for the final quiz!
